KOUKOUNARIES
Two kilometres long stretch of golden sand, azure water and green pines, the most famous beach of Skiathos and reputed to be the best in the Aegean if not the whole Mediterranean. Its name derives from the Greek word “Kokounari” which means pinecone. It is known as "Chrisi Ammos - Golden Sand" since the sand there is extremely fine and shines under the sun. Behind the beach is a large flat valley with green fields, more Koukounaries trees and fig trees. Behind the pine forest lies the lagoon of Strofilias, an important protected area for migrating birds and wildlife.
